Disinfection - what is it?

Absolutely not! Sterilization applies only to instruments, which means that there is still a need to disinfect hands and surfaces. The disinfectant is designed to eliminate bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms, although its scope is smaller than in the case of sterilization. Even very thorough disinfection on surfaces will not ensure complete asepticity, because spores, i.e. spore forms of microbes, will remain on it. However, it still remains the only way to protect hands and workstations from the danger of transmitting germs to people undergoing treatment. In the case of medical instruments, they are sterilized at high temperatures, as they have direct contact with tissues. It is similar with cosmetic tools, but in both cases sterilization must be preceded by disinfection, or rather decontamination.

How is it different from decontamination?

Just as sterilization must be preceded by disinfectants and disinfectants, soap and hot water should be used before there is a disinfectant, e.g. hand sanitizer. Effective decontamination of hands, tools, surfaces is decontamination, i.e. the use of detergent (washing) and ethyl, isopropyl or benzyl alcohol in turn. Decontamination is the second stage of decontamination - only thorough washing will guarantee high efficiency of disinfection.

Be alert to the three rules of proper disinfection

Modern antibacterial disinfectants are highly effective products. However, their biocidal properties will only work one hundred percent when we follow the following rules:

  1. Use decontamination products at the frequency specified in the product procedure - exactly every as many minutes, hours or days as prescribed in the instructions.
  2. Apply disinfectant for the prescribed time (information on the packaging, guidelines).
  3. Applied disinfectant - liquid or gel - leave to dry on your own.

In order to achieve a high level of protection, staff should be trained and information should be prominently displayed stating the rules for disinfecting hands and instruments in the cosmetic establishment. Even the most effective disinfectants will not help to maintain antisepticity without a scrupulous approach to the procedures established inside the salon. Absolute compliance and accountability of people performing treatments with the approach to decontamination and antiseptics may turn out to be the key to a better opinion about the plant. Now all you have to do is stock up on the highest quality disinfectants and consolidate the best hygiene habits in your own plant.

How do disinfectants work?

Most professional general-purpose disinfectant products that will work in a cosmetic plant have been made on the basis of alcohol with a concentration of min. 70 percent. In our offer we have liquids for surface disinfection and gels with appropriate action, convenient in application and use. Disinfectant products, depending on the composition and properties, kill all or almost all microorganisms, but leave spore forms of viruses or bacteria on the surfaces. For disinfection of surfaces, for example leather or leather-like finishes of couches or armchairs, it is better to buy non-alcoholic products designed for this type of activity, which, however, should be given more time to act.

Surface disinfectants

Surfaces above the floor with which the client has come into contact (tables, countertops, armchairs, couches) should be washed with detergent and disinfected with a surface disinfectant after each person using the treatment. If these are surfaces without contact during cosmetic activities (e.g. device housings, waiting room table), it is worth decontaminating them at the end of the day, as well as all door handles. Decontamination of floors should also be preceded by washing, after which the surface must dry. For this reason, to save time and work, choose professional, chlorine-free disinfectants with a wide spectrum of action, based on ammonium agents. They contain surface-active disinfectants, thanks to which they wash and disinfect at the same time. It is necessary to disinfect the floor once a day, preferably just after closing the office. Once a week, in turn, the treatment should be repeated on other equipment and planes (furniture, window sills, etc.)

Means for disinfecting tools

Preparations for disinfecting tools, in turn, can be used in an application from the outside (sprays, atomizers, etc.) or for bathing in a special bathtub or glass container, of course after washing. Suitable sanitizing dishes, which are distinguished by an attractive price, are also available in the tab with disinfectants. Regardless of the type of activities performed, in addition to the mandatory washing, we use decontamination for these equipment:

  • scissors and clippers
  • tweezers and cosmetic spoons
  • Knurling and chisel
  • scrapers and shears
  • spatulas and cutters
  • polishers and files (metal, glass)
  • brushes and combs
  • Tips for all types of devices
  • Ear piercing guns

Some decontamination should take place in a bath. A description with the name of the product and its concentration shall be placed on the vessel and the vessels must remain fully immersed within the time provided for in the description of the product. Of course, they should be washed first. After removal, it is necessary to rinse them under running water and dry. Some of these tools should go to the sterilization autoclave.

Hand sanitizers

Hand sanitization should be carried out obligatory after each procedure. Regardless of whether the work was carried out with nitrile or latex gloves. Before the procedure with the use of sharp medical or cosmetic instruments and interference with the epithelium or epidermis, it is also obligatory to disinfect the forearms. This disinfection procedure applies not only before and after the procedure, but also when we need to change gloves during the procedure. As a standard, we apply an amount of approx. 5 ml of hand sanitizer to thoroughly washed hands and rub into the smallest recesses of the skin for about 30 seconds. For forearms, this time is 1.5 minutes. Important: when finished, close or put away the package and wait for it to dry. Do not wipe disinfected hands, because in this way the disinfectants will be removed from the skin and will not work 100%. The means recommended by us, with the exact application of this instruction, guarantee full asepsis when performing cosmetic services. With frequent use of alcohol, excessive drying of the skin may occur, so beauty salon employees should support themselves with softening and moisturizing creams, which at the same time make it easier to put on and take off disposable gloves.
