Leather straps – How to choose the perfect one?
Retail leather straps may differ in a number of ways. One is the blade, which should be properly sharpened. Professional models are hand-grinded with a very high degree of repeatability, while maintaining appropriate production standards. When choosing leather straps, special attention should be paid to the perfect fit of the blade. Otherwise it will not be possible to extract the skins with full precision. How do you choose the right blade size? It all depends on the type of skin around your fingernails. If they are soft and short, a 3-millimeter-long blade will suffice. For larger and somewhat harder skins, a 5 or 7 millimeter model is recommended. A shorter blade ensures more precise cutting, and a longer blade reduces cutting time.
Another important thing to consider when buying leather straps is the material and its density. In particular, surgical stainless steel models, preferably German, Japanese or French, are recommended. This guarantees the appropriate density of the material, which translates into a high resistance to pressure during the manicure. The classic, all-purpose leather straps have arms that fit nicely in the palm of your hand. Ideally, they should be about four inches [10 cm] long. Shorter arms result in low pressure comfort, while longer ones do not guarantee adequate comfort during work.
